Kinshasa – Infrastructure: Launch of Road Rehabilitation and Drainage Works in Masina/Abattoir and Limete/Salongo.
The governor of the city of Kinshasa, Daniel Bumba Lubaki, launched the rehabilitation of main roads and rainwater drainage channels in Abattoir, district of Masina. He was joined for the occasion by the French Ambassador to the DRC, Rémi MARÉCHAUX, the Director of the French Development Agency (AFD), Safia IBRAHIM, and the representative of the European Union delegation to the DRC, Antonio CAPONE.
The head of the provincial executive was also surrounded by members of his government, including the provincial Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works, Alain Tshilungu, and the provincial Minister of Environment, Cleanliness and Beautification of the City, Léon Lumumba.

The delegation began its visit in Salongo neighborhood, Limete municipality, where it inspected the rehabilitation works on Liberté Avenue and Conseil de Ville Avenue. It then proceeded to Masina, where the Governor laid the foundation stone for the rehabilitation of Abattoir Vallée Avenue (1,374 meters) and Yamfu Avenue (1,263 meters).
These roads will feature an “inverted roof” (V-shaped) profile, allowing water to flow toward a central covered drain, inaccessible to users. The road surfaces will be paved with cement concrete, while the sidewalks will be constructed using locally produced, certified durable recycled-plastic materials.
In his speech, the city authority praised the support of the European Union and France, through the French Development Agency (ADF), in the fight against flooding, sanitation, and waste management, all of which are major challenges for Kinshasa. He also urged the residents of Kinshasa to take ownership of these infrastructures, designed to develop the city and enhance collective well-being.

For his part, the French Ambassador emphasized that these works, carried out under the “To Petola” project, aim to strengthen urban resilience in neighborhoods vulnerable to
flooding and health risks, such as Salongo and N’danu in Limete, and Abattoir in Masina. These initiatives are expected to improve the quality of life and mobility of residents.
The European Union representative, Antonio CAPONE, reaffirmed his institution’s commitment to support the Governor’s efforts to accelerate the development of Kinshasa. Following this, the Mayor of Masina municipality, Joseph SHIKI KATUMBA, welcomed the provincial authorities’ willingness to resolve the problem of flooding in this part of the capital.
The city of Kinshasa will closely monitor the proper execution of these critically important works through the technical services of the Provincial Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works.
