
Kinshasa: Under the Governor’s instruction, Minister Alain TSHILUNGU reopensAvenue les aviateurs (Gombe) after more than twenty years of closure.

The Provincial Government of Kinshasa, through the Provincial Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works, carried out on Thursday, September 4, 2025, the full reopening of Avenue les Aviateurs, on the section connecting the Avenue du Port to la Gare Central in Gombe municipality. Closed for over 25 years, this strategic road has been put back into service to ease tra ic flow in the Congolese capital.
Now fully drivable along its entire length, the Avenue les Aviateurs stretches from the intersection with Avenue du Port, in front of the General Directorate of OCC, to la Gare Central, passing by the National Intelligence Agency [ANR], MONUSCO, as well as the embassies of the United States and of China. The operation to remove the barbed wire installed by MONUSCO was supervised by the Provincial Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works, Alain TSHILUNGU, later joined by his counterpart from the Environment,
Léon MULUMBA.
According to Minister TSHILUNGU, this initiative falls within the framework of the instructions given by the city’s Governor, Daniel BUMBA, aiming to facilitate tra ic in the downtown area, currently disrupted by numerous roadworks. Parallel to Boulevard du 30 juin, l’Avenue des Aviateurs is expected to help relieve congestion on this major thoroughfare, which is daily overwhelmed by heavy tra ic. Accompanied by personnel from the Congolese National Police, Ministers Alain TSHILUNGU and Léon MULUMBA also oversaw the dismantling of unauthorized parking lots set up on the site. On this occasion, they rea irmed the provincial executive’s determination to improve urban mobility in the heart of the country’s institutions.
